Yenny, the little girl, the famous singer.
‘Beautiful boys all over the world, I could be chasing but my time would be wasted. They got nothing on you, baby. Nothing on you, baby …’ A lovely voice was heard from Yenny’s room. She was wearing a striped clothes with a pair of light blue hot pants. Her patterned leggings totally match with that pair of brown ankle boots. Yenny was playing her keyboard while singing her favourite song, ‘Nothing on you’.
She keeps practicing playing the electronic piano and singing as long as she has any spare time. ‘Why does she keep singing and practicing the keyboard? Won’t she feel tired of it?’ Is that the question in your mind at the moment? Yenny does love singing, becomes a famous singer is her life-long dream. She keeps practicing everyday for fulfilling this dream.
However, that’s only her ownwishful thinking. Her parents oppose her to become a singer. Although Yenny’s parents’ mind may be a bit outdated, they still think singers get a low pay. They do love Yenny very much since she’s the only child they have. However, they’re strict parents. Sometimes it gives Yenny pressure, and she has to inform her parents what she’s going to do.
In order to chase her dream, Yenny went to an audition held by JYP Entertainment, cheating her parents that going to a friend’s house. She had worked really hard to grab the chance to become a trainee in JYP Entertainment. ‘Beautiful boys all over the world, I could be chasing but my time would be wasted …’ ‘Nothing on you’ is the song Yenny used to compete with others in the audition. She had done her best to perform in front of the 5 judges. After the performance, Yenny waited at the back stage with her friend, Lim. They were holding hands, wishing Yenny could win.
The MC of the audition congrats the winner with a big hand, ‘Let’s give a big hand to our winner today, Yenny Park! She performed “Nothing on you” for us today. Of course her effortdeserves this award. Congratulations Yenny!’ Out of her expectation, Yenny cried when she received the prize. She gave a little thank you speech after receiving the award, ‘First of all, I wanna thanks JYP Entertainment for giving me a chance to become a trainee in your company, and I’ll do my best! However, I don’t know whether my parents would love to see me entering an entertainment for training and become a singer soon. They keep opposing my dream these days, so I hope this chance can change their mind. I have to say thank you to my best friend, Lim, too. She always stands by me when I’m depressed. Thank you, Lim! Thank you, my mum and dad!’
‘Congrats! Yenny, I feel really proud of you!’ Lim congratulated her with a big hug. ‘I know you can do it! You’ve proven me and your parents you’re a talented girl! You can definitely become a famous star under this company! Work harder!’
Yenny sniffed and said, ‘Thank you Lim! I can’t go this far if you’re not by my side!’
‘Let’s tell your parents now! I think they’ll be proud of you!’ Lim replied.
‘Hmm… Hope they’ll understand my thought and change their mind…’ Yenny sighed.
‘They’ll definitely support you! Let’s go back home and tell your parents immediately!’ Lim said with a big smile on her face, which gives Yenny a strong courage.
Yenny went back home with a good mood, while thinking how to express this mood to his Dad.
‘Dad, see! I’ve won the audition of JYP Entertainment!’ Yenny exclaimed happily. She thought her Dad would be proud of her.
‘Hey! Do you think getting the 1st place can get my approval!?’ Yenny’s father answered harshly.
Yenny replied bitterly, ‘Sorry, Dad. I know I should have told you before …’
‘That’s enough. My dear Yenny, how many times I’ve told you that singers can’t make money?’ Yenny’s father interrupted.
‘I know …’ Yenny answered unwillingly.
‘Yeah, you knew it, but why did you still attend the audition!?’ Yenny’s father asked with complaint.
Yenny replied, ‘Because that’s my dream since I was a little girl!’
‘What I know is you’ll give up soon!’ Yenny’s father responded while going back to his room.
‘Hey Dad!’ Yenny shouted, ‘I’ll try my best to prove that I can do so!’
Since then, the relationship between Yenny and her parents got worse. Although they were living in the same house, they didn’t talk much. To add insult to the injury, Yenny had to attend singing classes, dancing classes everyday in the company. They didn’t have much time to chat.
Three months pasted in this situation, but their relationship was still in the deadlocked state. Yenny finally got the chance to debut.
‘Do I wanna believe you think the same, I’m missing you. And I want you believe same love as me, I’m missing you …’ this was the song ‘Don’t say goodbye’, the song of Yenny’s debut. It was not a big hit, so do the upcoming songs. As expected, Yenny wasn’t that popular, famous. She had tried various kinds of songs, like retro, pop, hip-hop, but none of these styles made her famous.
During this period, Yenny could only talk to her best friend, Lim. But then, once when Yenny went back home at mid-night, she saw her Dad sitting there waiting for her to come back.
‘Dad, why aren’t you sleeping? You’re waiting for me?’ Yenny asked with a confused expression.
Her Dad replied, ‘Yenny, my daughter, you’ll always be my daughter. No matter you’re a lovely girl, a famous singer or whatever, you’re still my daughter. I’ll still love you and support you.’
Yenny hugged her Dad with tears, tears of joy, and tears of pain. Although she’s still suffering from the pain of being unknown, she got love from her parents and her best friend. She got an idea when she was crying, that she cried in 2 different emotions. She wrote it as a song to express it.
‘Gave me 2 different tears. After all these years, tears of joy, tears of pain, like sunshine and rain …’ This is the song ‘2 different tears’, expressed the feeling she had when she cried. She had convinced her manager to promote this song, and she just wanna share the feeling with the audience.
What really surprised Yenny is that the song brought her to the top! ‘2 different tears’ had topped the Billboard chart Hot 100! She became world-famous because of the song. Meanwhile, she had to perform this song everywhere in the world since it’s a big hit. She had proved her Dad she could become a famous star, while fulfilling her own dream.
This is the power of having a dream in your mind. This is the power of love, love from your family, and love from your best friend. This is also the power of perseverance. Always remember your dream, chase it no matter what’s happening.
