Wonder Girls: Hard Work, Blood, Sweat, and Tears

After debuting with the album “The WonderYears”, the Wonder Girls have returned to Korea with their second full-lengthalbum “Wonder World”. Whether in Korea or America, the Wonder Girls always strive to give their best and showcase their potential. Their biggest dream is a simple one: to be the pride of Wonderfuls everywhere.
1. ePop (e): Were you able to fit in when living in America?
Yeeun (YE) : It was really hard at the beginning, and we were all very dependent on one another. We missed our family and friends back in Korea so much. At that point in time, we had only just arrived in America, and we felt like we were all mute, because we didn’t understand English at all; in fact, only Yubin knew a smidgen. It was so bad that we daren’t speak when meeting others.
Wonder Girls (WG) : Although we were verypopular in Korea, we had to leave our career at its height to expand it in the USA. It was difficult, since we had to start at the bottom once again. We also had to learn English. English is different from Korean from the aspect of grammar. Furthermore, even if it’s just one word that’s misused, the meaning of the whole sentence is affected and misconstrued. Due to that, we were scolded terribly.
Sohee (SH) : Well, Americans are very outgoing and friendly people—even when it comes to strangers. Even if it’s only the first time that they’ve met, Americans will treat strangers like long-lost friends. I’m don’t like to talk much because I’m shy, so most people assume that I’m very unapproachable.
Yubin (YB) : (nods) That’s right! Once, I was drinking by myself at a cafe, and an American suddenly sat down across from me, chatting with me about many things—even his marriage. (laughs)
2. e : How did you feel when you first started expanding your career in America?
Sunye (SY) : We love to experiment and try new things; if a person is in a constant state all the time, there can be no progress. That’s why we took this opportunity to travel and see the world, as well as broaden our horizons.
WG: The experience of living stateside strengthened and tightened our bond. No matter what the outcome, the things that we’ve learned along the way are what matters more.
3. e: How was it when you were chosen as the worst idol vocalist by vocal trainers?
SH:I myself had read the article. I know that my vocal prowess leaves much to be desired. Thus, I’ve been practising incessantly and improving the quality of my vocals.
WG: We’re aware that not everyone is our fan. We’ll work hard to fix our flaws and better ourselves.
4. e: Did the members treat you well when youjoined the Wonder Girls?
Hyelim(HL) : They all treated me well, especially Yubin-unnie who joined the group ata later date. She took very good care of me.
YB: I was concerned on whether Hyelim could take the harsh criticisms thrown her way. However, my worry and concern vanished soon because she has never once dwelled on the caustic remarks people direct towards her. In fact, she didn’t even know about it until I told her.
HL: Sometimes I can be a bit spaced out(blur*). If Yubin-unnie hadn’t brought it to my attention, I still wouldn’t know that I have anti-fans. (laughs)
5. e: Who would the Wonder Girls say is their biggest rival?
SY: To be honest, we never actually think about competing with any group. For every single thing, there is a beginning and an end. We simply take different ways to get to the pinnacle of success.

YuLim couple. \(^-^)/
I am very very proud with Wonder Girls. To go to America when they were at the peak, and started from the bottom. To learn English, which for them, it was a completely different structure of language. You can imagine how many obstacles they had to overcome.
